Math learning at an early age is a common problem that frustrates parents. In fact, the problem is not the child’s abilities.

Children are pushed to rote the multiplication table and do not develop the imagination so necessary in mathematics. Here are a few tips on how to teach your child math outside of school.

Develop Imagination

Often a child cannot solve an example because he or she has no idea of the subject of the calculation. “5 + 6” is just a set of numbers that cannot be visualized in the head. Add visualization to the problem and formulate the problem as “5 apples + 6 apples”. To get the student interested, use his or her interests. For example, “apples” can be replaced with “works” if the child is interested in them.

Use real objects.

Desk, notebook and pen can cause a child to have bad associations. Leave these for school, and at home – learn while playing. Take out your favorite toys and try to count them. Come up with a few tasks with items that the student can pick up. This atmosphere will help the child become immersed in the process. All children are willing to solve simple examples, but will shut down if learning becomes boring.

Allow to be wrong

Fear of answering incorrectly causes a child to want to guess the answer. Or arrive at a solution the way that brought success before. Both ways are bad for learning math principles. Allow your child to make mistakes and don’t worry if the result doesn’t come right away. Your job is to teach your student to think and imagine, and that takes time.

Go beyond the school curriculum

It is important that the learning process at home and at school was different, then the child will not get bored with mathematics. One tool you can use is simple logic problems. Give your student three matches and ask him to make a square. Once he understands that it is impossible, give another match. The child will make a square and learn that it requires four sides. Later, the square on the chalkboard will turn into the familiar four matches at home.

Teaching your child math is easier if she is interested in the end result. Warn her that you have a gift, but only get it after she solves a simple problem: “Count how many windows there are in our house. Now multiply that number by two. Such games allow you to understand that knowledge of math – a useful thing. The child is waiting for new tasks and prepare for them.
